The tonnages indicated with yellow ink are for die openings 8 times thickness of metal. With an 8 to 1 dies ratio the inside radius of a right angle bend is approximately equal to the thickness of the material. Bending pressures for other metals, as compared to mild steel on chart, are as follows: Soft Brass -50% of pressure shown; Soft aluminum -50% of pressure shown; aluminum alloys heat-treated –same as steel; stainless steel -50% more than steel; chrome molybdenum -100% more than steel.

All of the above bending pressures are nominal and represent average conditions. These values are dependent upon the radii if the dies, the yield strength of the material, the temper of the material, the direction of the rolling stains etc. THEREFORE A SAFETY FACTOR OF ATLEAST 20% SHOULD BE PROVIDED IN SELECTING A PRESS FOR A GIVEN JOB.

1. The radii listed are the minimum recommended for bending sheets and plates without fracturing in a standard press brake with air bend dies. Other types of bending operations may require larger radii or permit smaller radii. The minimum permissible radii will also vary with the design and condition of the tooling.

2. Alcad sheet in the heat-treatable alloys can be slightly smaller radii than the corresponding tempers of the bare alloy.

3. Heat-treatable alloys can be formed over appreciably smaller radii immediately after solution heat treatment.

4. The H112 temper (applicable to non-heat treatable alloys) is supplied in the as-fabricated condition without special property control but usually

 

Punches & Dies

85° - 90° Forming Punches & Dies

85° punch and die combinations are used for air bending techniques.  To produce sharp, close-tolerance bends in light gauges, 90° punch and die combinations must be specified.

Die 2


30° Forming Punches & Dies

30° dies are used for forming acute angle bends in 22 gauge through to 3/16".

Gooseneck Die


Gooseneck Punches & Dies

All Gooseneck punches an die combinations are machined  at 85° for air bend techniques unless otherwise specified.  These punches are used for forming right angle bends, channels, or other special bends where a straight 90° punch would interfere.  GN #7, 8 and 9 punches are cut back further beyond the centerline for a greater flange.

Offset Dies


Offset Dies

Offset dies are sold in sets.  General purpose offset dies form two 90° bends in one stroke.

4 Way Dies


4 - Way Dies

Block sizes and openings on 4 - way does can be made to custmer specifications, including more than four openings. All openings are 85° unless otherwise specified.
